Polished
Highly reflective, mirror gloss finish. The full color, depth and crystal structure of the stone is visible. The shine comes from the reflection of the stone's crystals, not from a coating.
Honed
A very smooth surface without the shine of a polished one. Honed surfaces are not reflective and the stones colour is slightly washed out.
Flamed
A rough surface that is created through exposure to an intense concentrated flame. During the process, the crystal structure in the stone is rapidly heated causing it to expand and flake off, thus forming a rough surface. Flaming is not applicable to all stones and it is best for outdoor applications.
Satin / Leather
The surface of the stone is honed then it is passed over with abrasive bristles. The result is a slightly textured finish similar to that of leather. The sheen falls between a polished surface and honed one. |
